      @dankcushions Right but I had the same problem with pi2. This is very similar...

      In the emulator, i got something like this: Xbox 360 Controller (userspace ) loaded.

      thanks anyway.......

      Yeah I should have mentioned that as well. Controller syncs fine with my Pi3 running Retropie.

      @exonerated I have that the majority of the times I have my PS3 controller plugged in via USB. It stays stuck in a never ending black screen restart loop - both at startup and on exit.

      If it's the same thing, I find that unplugging it usually helps.

      @kbadr did you try resetting it up in emulationstation so it would create the other needed configs?

      @chorlton2080 Solved: I discovered the USB cable I was using did not have the data connections wired, must be for fast charging only.

      I have that controller and found one that has a similar issue. I found that the potetiomimter is bad and reads the opposite direction for the slightest push but corrects itself as you move past the “dead zone”. But it did it only in the up direction. Unforutally es reads that dead zone and registers the wrong direction when your trying to Configure. I say bad controller

      It's the controllers fault. Open it up and clean the button contact pads.

      Oh my. I was suggesting something simpler at the RetroArch emulator level, but that certainly works :)

      Thanks for sharing, glad it worked out!

      So, hotkey(PlayStation button) + start, seemed to actually worked.
      Maybe this got changed and the info not updated.

      @edmaul69 Thanks for the response.

      Yes, multiple times. Also performed update several times. And reset the config files and roms.

      Following other suggestions, I reset the PS3 controller, changed controllers, and removed/reinstalled the PS3 driver. Also, I deleted the retroarch joypad directory. No change to the controller problem yet.

      For more details; the joysticks work when configuring the controller. That is, they register properly and have an axis movement identified as the input. But when controller configuration is over, they still do not work.

      Finally, here's how I did to temporarily fix this bug.

      edit or create /opt/retropie/runcommand-onstart.sh

      add these lines

      ##reset bluetooth when launching mupen64,vice (fix controller cannot reconnect after get disconnected)
      if [ "$1" == "c64" ] || [ "$1" == "n64" ] ; then
      sudo hciconfig hci0 reset
      fi

      each time you launch a N64 or c64 game, you must reconnect (simply press ps button) the controller when game is started.

      now if controller get disconnected or out of battery , you can reconnect without issue.

      it also work if during the game a second controller want to connect, it is now recognized.

      hope this help
